17. サラエボ / Sarajevo

バルカン半島の旅 第八話 サラエボ  

6月26日(日)
「きみがあのマンドリンを弾く日本人かい？」
サラエボに訪れた時、なぜかおれたちの名はすでに広まっていた。

ボスニアの首都・サラエボは、モスタルから愛車のワーゲン ”ブバ” で4時間ほど。
川に沿って北上していくうちに、ヘルツェゴビナの荒涼とした風景は次第に濃い緑に変わっていきます。
山に囲まれた盆地サラエボは、90年代の紛争の時にはセルビア兵に街を取り囲まれ、山の上から実に3年間に渡って銃撃砲撃を受け続けたそうだ。 街にはモスタル同様 まだ銃痕だらけの建物がそこら中に残っている。まさに蜂の巣。
—かつてこれだけの弾丸がこの空間を通過して、どうやって生き残れた人たちがいたのだろう
と思ってしまうほどだ。

旅に出る前に 「ボスニアに行くなら」と友人のすすめで "ウェルカム・トゥ・サラエボ" という実話を元にした映画を見て、おれは震え上がった。ドキュメンタリー映像も使っているその作品には、イラク戦争中のバグダッドのような悲惨な街の様子が描かれていたのだ。
それから２ヶ月後、ついにおれはその街へやってきた。

おれたちはまずアナの家に荷物を降ろした。
アナはモスタルから一緒に来たナディムの友人。
彼女は小学校で音楽の先生をしているらしいが、とてもそうは見えない。
先生にしてはワイルドでぶっ飛び過ぎてるのだ。
でもベキムも先生でワイルドだしな。
きっとこれが典型的なボスニアの教師なのかも知れないな。
アナの部屋にはいつも誰かしら遊びにきてて、みんな大声で笑い、くせのある連中ばかりだった（勿論いい意味で）。
クロアチアで出会った俳優・アレンが「ボスニアはテキサスのようにワイルドだ」って言ってた理由が、彼女たちを見ているとよく分かった。
戦後の混沌とした状況がこういう空気を生みだしたのだろうか。それとも元々ボスニア人の気質なのだろうか・・

おれたちは夜の街に出かけた。
「この橋から第一次世界大戦は始まったのよ」
街の中心を流れる川にかかっている小さな橋を越える時、一緒にいたアンドレアが話してくれた。 この橋の上で1914年にオーストリア大公が暗殺され、それが世界大戦に発展していったというのだ。
『ヨーロッパの火薬庫』と呼ばれるバルカンらしいエピソード。

おれたちは "City Pub" というBarの表のテーブルで飲んでいた。
「きみがあのマンドリンを弾く日本人かい？」
そう尋ねてきたのは、詩人のミーシャだった。
ミーシャの話によれば、モスタルでのおれたちの演奏を聞いてた誰かが、サラエボに来てその話をしていたらしいのだ。
初めての街に訪れた時にすでに名が知れてるなんて、なんかいい気分だ。しかもあの恐れていたサラエボで！
ミーシャはとてもシャイな男で、元々ひっそりと詩を書いていたのだけど、その詩を友人が見つけ勝手に雑誌に投稿した事から彼の名は知られるようになったという。おれたちはこの後サラエボでは女性シンガーやロックミュージシャンなど、アーティストのところに滞在させてもらうようになるのだけど、サラエボのアーティストたちはみんな大らかで、いいアートシーンが生まれていると思った。

「よかったら明日ここでライブをやらないか？」
店にいたおじさんが提案してきた（このおじさんも有名なコメディアンだと
ベキムは言ってました）。
「Why not! （もちろんさ！）」こうしてサラエボでライブが決定した。
まるでコンサートツアーをしている気分だ。しかも行き当たりばったりに！
そんな風にイージーな旅ができるボスニアを好きになっていく。

「バルカンは新しい何かが生まれる可能性を秘めたヨーロッパに残された最後の場所だ」
とクロアチアでインタビューに答えてくれたあるジャーナリストの言葉を何となく実感し始めてきた。
ここには"隙間"がある。隙間があればこそ、そこに何かが生まれてくる可能性があるのだ。

その夜、おれたちは遅くまで飲み、出会ったばかりの陽気な仲間たちと深夜のサラエボを徘徊した。
恐怖のイメージを抱いていたサラエボは、そんな調子で始まった。

Balkans Travel Chapter 8. "Sarajevo"   
26th June. 
" Are you the Japanese guy who play mandolin? "
When we arrived in Sarajevo, we were already famous somehow.

To Sarajevo, it took 4 hours from Mostar by our car " BUBA".
Saravejo is surrounded by the mountains.
During the war in 90's, Serbian armys have surrounded this town and shot them from those mountains for 3 years!
There are so many bullet holes on the buildings same like Mostar.
I wonder how some people could survive in this town.

Before I left Japan, I watched one film is called " Welcome to Sarajevo ".
I shuddered with fear. It was like Baghdad at Iraq war.
Then 2 month later, I could reach this town somehow.

We put our stuff in Ana's apartment first. Ana is friend of Nadim who is musician came with us from Mostar.
Ana is a music teacher in junior school. But i couldn't believe it.
She is too wild to be a teacher. Oh,Bekim is also teacher and wild. So maybe they are typical  Bosnian teacher, I guess..

Always somebodys there in Ana's apartment. And all of them were crazy.
Alen, the actor from Riheka said " Bosnia is more wild like Texas"
When I met them, I got the sense what he meant.

We hang out to the town.
" First world war was happened from this bridge "
When we were crossing the bridge on the river, Andrea told me.
According to her, some guy from Austrian king family was shot on this bridge on 1914.
Then it has expanded to First world war.
Woo, it sounds like typical Balkans story.

We took beer at outside of the bar.
" Are you the Japanese guy who play mandolin? "
It was Mesha's question. He met some guy who was listening our live in Mostar.
Then he told about us in Sarajevo. That's why we were already famous in Sarajevo.

"You should play tomorrow in this bar" somebody asked us.
"Why not !" We managed to make concert in Sarajevo at the first night.
Wow! It seems like we were making concert tour without any plans.
That's one of my dream man!
I like place where things can goin on like this.

" Balkans is last place in Europe where have possibility to happen something new  "

Some guy answered to my interview in Rijeka.
I stared to understand what he meant.
There are some "space". That's why there are possibility to happen something.

Then we marched in town at midnight.
This was biging of Saraevo.

15. 灼熱のモスタル／ Burning MOSTAR

バルカン半島の旅 第七話 「灼熱のモスタル」
6月25日(日) ブナ川はモスタルの中心地から車で15分ほど走ったところに流れています。おれたちはモスタル滞在中のほとんど毎日、日中はこの川で泳いだり木陰に座って過ごしていました。
とにかく暑い！こんなに暑くちゃ何もできないってほどモスタルは暑かったので、午後はこの川で“シエスタ”。
シエスタとは地中海地方の人たちの風習で、午後はたっぷり休憩時間をとって夕方から仕事を再開する事。午後の時間は暑くて仕事にならないのだ。
ブナ川は澄み切った清流。水はすごく冷たい。数キロ上流にすぐ水源があるからです。
この辺りは日本のような森はなく、どこか砂漠の中のオアシスのようなのに、はげ山のふもとからいきなり滝のように水が吹き出しているのです。
バルカンのそれぞれの地域にそれぞれの魅力があるけど、ヘルツェゴビナの風景はまったく異国なのにどこか懐かしい。

Should we stay or should we go?
｢おれたちは今日中にモスタルを出発してサラエボに入ろうと思ってるんだ」

モスタル三日目の朝、ベキムとペーターがそう言ってきた。
二人はペントハウスの外でテントを張って寝ていたので夜のうちにそういう話になったみたいだった。
— またか
スプリットに続き、二人はまたそそくさと町を立ち去ろうとしていた。
｢そんなに急いでちゃじっくり撮影もできやしないよ！」
とさすがにおれは反論した。
｢よし、じゃあおれたちのこの意見の食い違いそのものを撮影しよう」
と提案した。こういう事態も旅そのものだと思ったからです。
3人で川原に座り、カメラを設置してそれぞれの意見を話し合った。

｢昨日一日、初日の夜に出会った連中と誰とも連絡がつかなかったからさ。分かるだろ？
  最初はみんな愛想がいいものさ、でもそれは最初だけだったんだ」とベキム。

｢早く※ボートの旅を始めたいからさ」とペーター。
　　  ※ ボスニアの北部からはボートに乗り換えて旅する予定なのです。

｢ここもこんなに早々と立ち去ってしまったら、ドキュメンタリーとして何も映像で捉えきる事ができないまま終わってしまうよ。それにこれじゃまるで観光客のようじゃないか。初日の夜にごきげんな連中に出会ったことや、寝る場所をゲットできたことは絶対にいいサインだ。もう少しここに留まるべきだ」とおれはと訴えた。

撮影の直後、初日の夜に出会ったミルザとばったり再会した。
｢シエスタに最高の楽園があるんだ」というミルザの言葉に飛びつき、結局おれたちはミルザと共にサラエボではなく、その “楽園”に直行した。
そこは滝に囲まれた楽園だった。クラベツァ！灼熱のモスタルにあってここはひんやり涼しい！
おれは｢一週間でもここにいていい｣と思った。ベキムもペーターも満足そうに泳いでいた。
これでもう少しここに留まる事が決まった。

出発のサイン
おれたちが滞在していたミリのビルはこの町のアーティストたちのための場所だったので、おれたちの滞在中も写真の展覧会が開かれたりライブイベントが行われていた。
中庭では毎晩面白い連中が集まってビールを飲んでいた。
｢おれはアートを通してこの分断された町をひとつにしたいのさ」
とミリはインタビューの時に言った。
｢分断」は、この町で起こった90年代の戦争の時から始まっている。
モスタルでは中心を流れる川を挟んでクロアチア側とムスリム側に分かれて激しい戦闘が行われていた。戦争が終わった今でも彼らは分かれて住んでいて、まだ人々の心の中には大きな壁があるのだ。
｢そんなに簡単に戦争の事を忘れる事はできないさ」
とボスニアの旅の中で何人かの人たちは言った。
ミリはここで両方の側の人たちを受け入れて、一緒に表現活動する場所を提供しているのだ。

その他にも初日の夜に出会った若者たちにインタビューした。みんな20代中盤の世代だったので、戦争が激しかった子供の頃はベキムのようにノルウェーやドイツに逃れてたものが多かった。
—なぜ戻ってきたの？
｢そりゃここがおれの町だからさ」
とモスタルの橋の近くでバーを開いてるサミュエル (25才 ムスリム) は答えた。
｢ひとつの世界、同じ人間、それだけさ。この分断された状況はばかげてる。でもまた同じような戦争が起こったら、おれはもう逃げない。今度はここに留まるだろう」

ある夜、ミリの中庭でVUNENYというバンドでヨーロッパを飛び回ってるミュージシャン、ナディムと出会った。
翌日かれは取材のためサラエボに行かなきゃならなかったから、｢お前たちの車で一緒に乗せてってくれないか」と尋ねてきた。
—これが出発のサインだ
とおれたちは感じた。
ここで出会った連中と一緒に過ごした時間を通して、この町と何かがつながったような気がしていたからだ。
—今度この町に戻ってきた時には 受け入れてくれる連中がいる。
翌日の夕方、おれたちはナディムと共にサラエボに向けて出発した。

｢お前が正しかったよ」
とベキムは出発を延ばした事を賛成してくれた。

Balkans Travel Chapter 6. "Burning MOSTAR"
25th June. River Buna flows 15 minutes by car from Mostar.
We used to hang out there for chilling almost every afternoon.
Because it was so hot everyday in Mostar. We couldn't to do anything.
So just had "siesta" during the day.
The water of Buna is quite cold. Because the river rise just 2,3Km up from our place, even though there are not so many trees around Mostar. There seems like a oasis in the desert. The land scape of Herzegovina is so attractive!

Should we stay or should we go?
"We are thinking to move to Sarajevo today"

Bekim and Petter told me at the 3rd day's morning.
Again!  " If you always rush like this, i can't shoot any documentary! "
I refuted.
" OK. We must shoot about this subject "
I thought those problem also taste of travel, So it's nice to shoot for our documentary.
We sat down by the river and had discussion about difference of our opinion in front of the camera.

" Because i couldn't have contact with the people who we met 1st night. You know,   
  everybody nice to us at the beginning. But it was just only for beginning " Bekim said.

" Because I have appointment with Norwegian friends in July. And i want to start boat trip" Petter said.

" If we rush so much like this, i can't shoot any documentary. It's like a just tourist. And it was good sign to meet nice people and to get place to sleep at 1st night. We should stay more longer" I said.

Right after the shooting, we met one friend Milza. He introduced one good place for Siesta.
So we headed to this place instead of Sarajevo.
It was paradise! Surrounding by the water falls, atmosphere is so cool!
" Oh i can stay here even more than a week! "
We swam in the lake. Bekim and Petter seemed very happy.
That's how i could stay here more longer.


Sign to leave  Mili's place where he let us stay is actually place for artists. So every evening, interesting people hang out to here and had some beer in the garden.
" I want to join again this divided town through the arts "
Mili said on my interview.
" Divided "  has started since the war in 90's. During the war, they had a big battle by the river between Croatian and Muslim people in Mostar. Still they have pain in their hearts. Still they have big wall in their hearts.
So Mili wants to join them again by the arts.

I had interviews to another people as well. All of them are around 25 years old.
Many of them had escaped to another country during the war like Bekim.
" Why did you choose to come back here? "
" Because here is my town " One young guy answered.
" There are only one people and one world. i want to live in peace. But if the war happen again, i will choose to stay here. I wll never escape again "

One night, we met one musician Nadim. He plays in the band is called VUNENY. He had to go to Sarajevo next day for interview.
" Bring me to Sarajevo with you "  he asked us.
It was a good sign for us to leave Mostar. We felt it. Because all of us satisfied about Mostar. We knew we got place where we can come back someday. They will welcome us.
Next evening, we left Mostar with Nadim. Headed to Sarajevo.

" You were right "
Eventually Bekim agreed with my opinion to stay longer at each places.

14. 真夜中のセッション / MOSTAR

バルカン半島の旅 第六話 「真夜中のセッション」

6月23日（金） クロチア南部のデルタ地帯を抜け、無事ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナに入国。
ここの国境は難なく通過できましたが、なんせボスニア人、日本人、ノルウェー人という奇妙なチームなので、これから先の国境ではいつも足止めを喰らって色々調べられるようになりました。

おれたちは北上し、南部の古都・モスタルを目指して愛車”ブバ”を走らせた。 南部のこの辺りは”ヘルツェゴビナ”と呼ばれている地域で、町には何故かクロアチアの国旗が立っている。
「この辺りにはクロアチア人が多く住んでて、この地域をクロアチアにしたがっているのさ」
とベキムが教えてくれた。

モスタルに到着した時にはもうとっぷりと日が暮れていました。
街頭に照らし出されたモスタルの町には、祭りがあったみたいで人の熱気と異国の妖艶な空気に満ちていた。
表通りも路地も手作りの匂い。きれいな清流が所々に町中を走り抜けている。
到着したとたんにおれはこの町に魅せられました。
｢だからおれは早くここに来たかったのさ」とペーター。

おれたちはスプリットのマルコの紹介で元ミス・ボスニアのサムラという女性と合流し、表通りのテーブルでビールを飲みました。
この町の空気にすっかり気持ちよく酔ったおれは、やがてペーターのマンドリンを弾き始めました。
ジミヘンや 昔やってたバンドの曲など歌っていると、おれたちのテーブルには地元の若者たちが集まってきて、いつの間にかょっとしたコンサートになっていました。
通りの向かいで飲んでるおじさんたちも見慣れぬアジア人に興味を持ったのか話かけてきます。
「よう日本人、英語を喋るんじゃない。アメリカを追いかけるのはよせ！」
「じゃあどうやってコミュニケーションすればいいのさ！」
ってな感じで。
地元の若者たちもこの奇妙なチームを面白がってくれ、ベキムもペーターも楽しそうに話をしていました。
こうして音楽で人と出会っていくなんて、これこそおれたちの旅だぜ！
｢モスタル中がおれたちを囲んでいた」とベキムはこの晩の事をそう言った。
おれもこの町のバイブレーションに何かが共鳴してるような感覚を感じてた。

「よかったらおれたちのところに滞在しないか？」
ミリという30才くらいの男がそう申し出てくれた。
「わお！ ほんと？そりゃありがてぇ！」
こうしておれたちはミレの好意により、彼が運営してるクラブの屋上のペントハウスに滞在する事ができました。

—なんだか面白くなってきそうだ
おれは確信していた。

Balkans Travel Chapter 6. "What you want?"

23th June.  After we passed beautiful delta area in south Croatia, entered Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We drove our "BUBA"(volks wagen beatle) toward to Mostar.
The border here, we could pass without any problem. But after that, we got check at every border. Because you know we are kind of strange team.One Bosnian,one Japanese and one Norwegian... So it's no choice man.

This area in south bosnia is called Herzegovina. Still many Croatian flags are standing in this aria.
" Many Croatian people live in this aria. They want this area to be Croatia. That's why they put those flags"
Bekim told me.

When we arrived Mostar, it was already getting dark.
What a beautiful town!
Immediately i was falling love with this town.
What lighten up was mysterious buildings and strange atmosphere.
All the town seems like hand made.  Clean streams flow among the town...
" That's why i wanted leave Split early" Petter said.

Marco introduced us one girl Samura who lives in Mostar. She is ex. miss Bosnia.
We hang out to street to take beer together.  Before I never drink beer with any miss something.
I felt so good. so, i took Petter's mandolin and played.
I sang some Japanese songs and Jimi Hendrix and so on. After while, we were surrounding by local young people.
Wow it turned small concert!
Even older people told to me.
" Hey Japanese! Don't speak english! Don't follow America!"
"OK. So, how do we communicate each other?"
Like this.
Young people had interesting about our team. Bekim and Petter looked fine to talk with them.
To encounter the people by music. That's our way to travel man!
We were drinking and singing until deep midnight.

" You can sleep in our place, if you want"
Mili, the owner of one club said.
" Wow really!? Why not!"
That's how we got the place to sleep.

Something will happen in this town.
i was convinced that.

13. "What you want?" / SPLIT

バルカン半島の旅 第五話 「What you want?」
6月22日(木)
スプリットはヤシの木が街路樹になっているトロピカルな街。
ローマ帝国時代の遺跡が街の中に点在しています。
おれたちは到着するなりビーチへ直行。
ここでベキムの友人、詩人のマルコと合流。
この街ではベキムとマルコとの対談を撮影する予定になっていたのです。
とにかく暑いのでまずはビールで乾杯！
マルコはまだ28才だけど、低くてしゃがれた声で話すので老成してみえた。
「撮影は後にしよう」とベキム。さすがに長旅で疲れていたのです。

—こうして友人たちを訪ねていく事で「ベキムのルーツ探し」というドラマを紡いでいく事ができるのだろうか？

おれは前からその事が気になっていたけど、とにかくその日は旅の疲れをビールで潤し、そのまま夜マルコの本屋の中庭でワールドカップ、クロアチアvsブラジル戦を地元の若者たちと観戦した。
うわさ通りのクロアチア市民のサッカー熱！試合開始と共に花火まであがりました。
街中が興奮の熱気に包まれていた。
中庭のテレビの前でもみんな興奮しています。マルコも何やら大声で叫んでいました。
—日本戦じゃなくて良かったぁ〜
もしあれが日本戦だったらまじで危なかったと思う（日本戦の日はイストラで野宿してたので大丈夫でした）。
おれは試合の事より、この中庭に感動していた。
ローマ時代の匂いが残る古い庭。今回旅したほとんどの街におれは惹かれた。
映像ばかり撮っていて写真があまりないのが残念。

翌日、予定通りマルコとベキムの会話を撮影するつもりだったけど、ベキムはカメラを回す直前になって
「What you want?  “何を撮りたいんだ？”」
とおれに聞いてきた。
おれは唖然とした。
— だって、これは元々ベキムのアイデアじゃないか
いつも打ち合わせをしようとするとはぐらかされる訳も分かってきた。
— ベキムは 「ルーツ探し」 なんて、もともと真剣に考えていなかったのだ
　 ただ旅の映画を撮りたいための口実だったのだ

さらにペーターは何故か 「早く次の街へ行こう」 とやたら急いでいる。
旅はもちろん「長さ」じゃないけど、このままじゃ「深さ」もないままスプリットを去る事になってしまう。
おれはこれまで一人旅しかした事がなかったので、この展開に戸惑った。
—おれは日本での生活を全て捨ててこの作品を撮ろうと思ってここまで来たのに、なんだこのモチベーションの違いは！
と腹が立った。
かと言ってここまで来て引き返す訳にはいかない。
結局この旅はベキムの人生を変えるほどのものになっていくのだけど、この時点ではそんな事は分からないのでとにかくイライラしていました。
おれは「とにかく いい作品を作るんだ」 と日本を出る前に決めて出てきていたので、
「ここからがジャムセッションさ！」 と思うようにして、その時の波を捕まえるように心がけた。

おれたちは慌ただしくスプリットを去り、いよいよボスニアに向かいました。

Balkans Travel Chapter 5. "What you want?"
22th June  Split is a tropical town.  Coco trees are standing on the roadside. You can see acient Rome's ruins among the town.

When we arrived this town, we went to the beach directly to see an poet Marco who is Bekim's friend.
We were planing to shoot their conversation for our documentry film.
Anyway "Cheers!".  It was so hot, we took beer.
Marco was still 28 years old, but talking like Tom Waits. So he seemed more older.
"I don't want to shoot now" Bekim said.
We were tired by long way travel.

- How can i make drama by just visiting his friends?
I had wondered about it since bigining.
Anyway we enjoyed beer, and watched World cup food ball game Croatia vs Brazil in the garden of Marco's bookshop with young local people.
It was interesting to see how Croatian people crazy about it.
Everybody were shouting to the television.
Woo i was lucky. Because it was not vs japan. It would be really dangerous.

Next day, i was going to shoot Bekim and Marco's conversation.
" What you want?"
Suddenly Bekim asked to me, just right before rolling film even though it was Bekim's idea.
Immediately i realized that "Serching Bekim's identity", this cocept was empty.
He wanted to make film just for fun. "Serching Bekim's identity" was just an excuse...

And Petter was always rush to move to next palce. It was also makes me annoyed.
I couldn't understand why they choose to come here.
Yeah travel is not "how long", but "how deep. But we didn't get any "depth" in Split, yet.
Just like tourlist..
"I quit everything in Japan, and came here for this project.
  For this project? Don't let me down!"
i was thinking like this.
I was really disappointed to know how diffrent motivation we had about this film between me and them.
I was always traveling by myself.  This travel was 1st exprience for me to travel with group.
So i was confusing with this situation.
Anyway there was no way to go back to Japan. And before i left Japan, i decided to myself to make good film whatever.
So i tryed to don't give up and to keep on shooting somehow..
"OK, now it's time for Jam session! Let's catch the wave!"
i tryed to think like this.

We left Split in rush, then headed Bosnia and Herzegovina.
 

12. Departure in travel / 旅の中の旅立ち

バルカン半島の旅 第四話 「旅の中の旅立ち」

6月20日(火)  イストラ半島の旅から戻ってくると、リエカではなんと新聞や雑誌の取材がおれたちを待っていました。
"NOVI LIST"という新聞におれたちの記事が載りました。
マスコミデビューがまさかクロアチアになるなんて、夢にも思ってなかった！
おれは旅に出て映像作品を作っていきたいと思っていたけど、特に色んな国の奴らと一緒に何か作りたいと思っていた。今回しょっぱなからその夢が実現し、しかもメディアにも取り上げられるなんて、なんだか幸先良すぎだぜ！

インタビューの後には今度はおれが記者たちにカメラを向けてインタビューをしました。
「できるものなら一緒に旅したい」
おれたちの旅についてどう思う？　という質問に対し、旅先で出会ったほとんどの人たちがそう答えました。
おれたちの旅のプランは、クロアチア〜ボスニアを車で旅したあと、ボート（ベキムが４月に購入済み）に乗り換えボスニア北部からサバ川、ドナウ川を下り、セルビア、ルーマニア、ブルガリアを越え黒海まで行こう、というものだった。
「川を下る」というアイデアは『ハックルベリーフィンの冒険』が子供の時から好きだったベキムが考えたもの。
おれもわくわくしたけど、
—ここに住んでいる人たちさえ羨むような旅をおれたちはしようとしてるんだ。
とインタビューを通しておれは知りました。
「バルカンは新しい”何か”が生まれる可能性のある、ヨーロッパに最後に残された場所だ」
とインタビューに答えてくれた人がいたけど、一体どんな場所がおれたちを待っているのだろう。

クロアチアに到着して以来、一週間滞在していたリエカをいよいよ出発！ 　
旅の中の旅立ち。新鮮な風が吹く瞬間。この瞬間の開放感はいつもおれをハイにしてくれる。　
— 何はともあれ、前に進むのさ！
愛車のワーゲン”ブバ”でアドリア海沿岸を南下。目的地は350km先のスプリット。
ロング・アンド・ワインディングロードを風を切って走るぜ。
暑くなったら車を止めてアドリア海にジャンプ！
ぽつぽつと木が生えている白い岩山が続く この沿岸独特の風景。
国立公園の中で隠れて野宿。

スプリトが近づいてくると広い平原地帯に入りました。
「あれが例のやつだよ」 とベキム。
草原の中にぽつぽつと家が見えてきました。近づいてくると、それは戦争で無惨に破壊された家々でした。
90年代この辺りは戦火の烈しかった地域なので、まだ生々しくその痕が残っていると聞いていたのです。
「地雷注意」の看板も立っています。おちおち立ちションにも行けない地域なのです。
リエカにはほどんど戦争の影響はなかったので、ここに来て初めて90年代の戦争の傷跡を目撃しました。
「わお〜、これか」
と おれはそれらの家や看板を撮影しました。
のちにボスニアでもっと悲惨な町に出会うとは知らずに。

Balkans Travel Chapter 4. The depature in travel
20th June  After we came back from Istra, we gave some interviews.
We were on the news paper! I've never imagined me on the croatian news paper.
I have dreamed in long time for traveling and shooting documentry.
Especialy i wanted to make film with people who come from other countries.
Since bigining, already i realized this dream. And some news people had interesting about us.
I'm so lucky!

After those interviews, it was my turn. I asked interviews with them as well.
"I want to go with you, if it's possible"
Many people said this.
We were planing to travel by the car from Croatia to Bosnia, then Bosnia to Black sea by the boat which bekim got last april throgh Serbia, Rumania, Bulgaria.
It made me exciting a lot. During those interviews, i realized that this travel is attructive even for Balkans people as well.
"Balkans is last area in Europe where has possiblity to deverope something new" some guy said.
Oh, which kind of places are waiting for us? I got more excting.

"Now we're going to leave Rijeka!"
This moment -the depture in the travel- is always special for me.
It makes me "Zero"and reset. Fresh wind blow..

To the south, by the coast of Adriatic sea. Next destination was Split, 350km south from Rijeka.
We drove the long and winding road.
When it got hot, we just jumped into the sea.
The white rock mountains, not so many trees. Strange landscape by the coast. Sleeping by the national park.
When we got close to Sprit, the landcape has turned to a grass field.

"Can you see that? That's what i told you"
Bekim pointed one old house. It was destroyed house by the war in 90's.
There were one of the battlefield during the war.
You can see sign boards for mine caution as well. This area, you must watch your step even for taking piss.
There are still many scars from the war.
Rijeka wasn't suffered so much by the war.  So that was first time for me to see something from the war.
"Wow~! Is this?"
I was shooting films.
In that moment, i didn't know that we were going to see much more miserable town in Bosnia...

7.Conversation is JamSession! / Istra

バルカンの旅 第三話「会話はジャムセッション！-イストラ-

6月17日(土) 

― なんて素敵な場所なんだ！

俺たちはあるレストランの中庭でゴキゲンな時間を過ごしていた。

ベキムの友人、俳優のアレンと奥さんのディアナが

「イストラで一緒に夕食を食べよう」

と俺たちを誘ってくれたのだ。

イストラはリエカの西に張り出した半島。　リエカが熱海だとすればイストラは伊豆半島という感じ。ちょっと違うかな・・

とにかく俺たちは愛車のワーゲン、「ブバ」に乗ってイストラに出かけた。
そのまま2、3日この半島を旅するつもりです。

リエカから南の地中海沿岸は、白っぽい岩山にポツポツと木が生えているような独特な風景が続くのですが、一方西のイストラは峠を越えると途端に日本のような濃い緑の山々や平原が広がります。

ここまで来ればイタリアやスロベニアの国境ももうすぐそこです。

「バレ」という小さな村でアレンたちと合流。すでに日は暮れていました。

バレ！　ブバから降りた途端に俺はこの小さな村を好きになりました。

薄明るい街灯に照らし出されてたのは石で作られた古～い道と建物、そして静寂・・

俺はまるで中世のヨーロッパの村にタイムスリップをしたような気持ちになった。

アレンは、彼の友人「トモ」のレストランへ俺たちを連れていってくれた。

静寂な中世の石の路地を歩いてゆくと、ひっそりとトモのレストランはあった。

トモの店は、バレのしっとりとした雰囲気にふさわしく、つつましく、こじんまりとしていて、そしてとても優雅な空間でした。

俺たちは中庭のテーブルでうまいワインと料理でくつろいだ。

トモの店にはメニューはない。何か食いたければその日トモが作ったものが出てくるのだ。レストランというより「トモの家」といった感じ。

俳優のアレンとは出会ったばかりなのに、すぐに打ち解ける事ができました。

アレンは心から人の話に耳を傾ける事ができる人。少なくとも俺の話す話に目を爛々として聞いてくれた。

旅に出て映像を紡いでいく事を目指して東京で4年間修行してた話や、そのきっかけとなった6年前の旅の話などを話したら

「You are the soul man! お前は魂の男だ！」

と俺の生き方に共感してくれた。

勿論、俺が素晴らしい訳ではなくオープンマインドなアレンたちがグレイトなのだ。

アレンもディアナも心から俺のことを好きになってくれているのを感じ、嬉しい気持ちになりました。

ワールドカップのせいか、アジア系の人が少ないせいか、リエカではいつもよそ者を見るような目で見られている気がしてたので、やっと心から話せる人物に出会った気持ちです。

旅をする人にとって、出会っていく人たちがその街の色をつけていくのだ。

「『モクはオレとディアナに幸せを運んでくれた』ってアレンが言ってたぜ」

と後でベキムが俺に伝えた。

何てこった！それが本当なら俺はまるで尊敬する旅人クヌルプ（ヘルマンヘッセの小説の主人公）みたいじゃないか！

でも実際は俺のほうが彼らから幸せな時間を分けてもらったのだ。

アレンは38才、国立劇場で主演を演じる俳優。

友人のトモはレストランのオーナーだけではなく小説を書いたりする作家でもある。

ここはクールな人たちが密かに集うクールな場所。俺はここの素敵な空気と素敵な人たちと過ごす時間にすっかり酔いしれていた。

まもなく音楽も始まった。

店のギター、ペーターのマンドリン、そして中庭にあったジョウロをパーカッションにしてセッション。

俺もアレンもベキムも歌った。

「会話はジャムセッションだ！」と俺は言った。

その夜、俺たちは止めどもなく話が弾んだ。小さなきっかけで会話のテーマはどんどん変わっていく、俺たちはその波に乗り、会話はグルーブしていった。　なんてゴキゲンな時間！

英語もろくに喋れなかった時期に俺は旅先で言葉の代わりに色んな国の人と音楽でジャムセッションをしていった。

ジャムセッションでは、うまく演奏する事以上に他の人の音に耳を澄ます能力の方が大切だと俺は思うのだけど、人と会話する時も同じなんだ。人の話にどれだけ心から耳を澄ませる事ができるか。あの夜俺はそう感じた。

「会話はジャムセッション！」　アレンはこの言葉をよほど気に入ったみたいで、後でリエカのアレンの家を訪ねた時にもアレンはこの言葉をよく繰り返していた。

夜はトモが俺たち3人に部屋をあてがってくれた。この素敵な空間の中で幸せな気分のまま眠りにおちました。

Balkans Travel chapter 3. ISTRA

17th June  What a wonderful garden here in Tomo's restaurante!

Alen is actor. He and his wife Diana invited us to have dinner together with them in Istra.

Istra is a peninsula just up north from Rijeka.

Bale is very old village in Istra. Whole town was made by stones. Good vibration!

When we arrived there, i felt like i was in Middle Ages.

Alen took us to one small restaurante,Tomo's restaurante.

Tomo is Alens friend.

Tomo is not only restrant-guy, but also writer. I saw one book, short storys. But i couldn't read it..

Anyway, his restaurante, it'so------nice!

The wall surrunding us,they have been standing here for more than 1000 years!

Some kind of silent atmospher. Cool place and cool people.

I was very happy to come here.

Alen and Diana are really open minded.

So i could release myself. We talk a lot.

I felf like we have been best friends for long time.

I felt they really liked me. After while Bekim told me "They said you brought hapiness to them"

I don't know why, anyway we had really wonderful time.

Nice food, good wine, cool people...

Then music was starting...

Guitar, Mandolin, Percussion.

Alen is a great singer. I also sang some japanese songs which i use to play with my band.

Music became jam session.

"Conversasion is jam session!"

Jam session, it's not enough even if you can play well.

You need some ability to feel and to listen how the others play.

In conversation you also need this ability.

Then it will get groove.

There was lot of music and conversasion that night.

Eventually, Tome showed us a nice room to sleep in.

6.ベキムの友人 / Bekim's friends

週末はペーターと友人のナディムたちとノルウェーの森に、ベリー＆きのこ狩りに出かけました。
ノルウェーの森には驚くほど沢山きのこが生えています。
ブルーベリーやレッドベリーもそこら中に繁茂していて、あっという間にタッパが一杯になりました。
夜は友人たちを招き、森の幸を使った料理でホームパーティー。
日曜日は海に出かけ、今年の泳ぎ納めをしました。冷たい海が気持ちいい！
オスローでは、これらの森や海に自転車で行けるのです。本当に美しい街だと思います。
ではバルカン半島の旅のつづきを書きます。

6月14日〜　バルカンの話 第二話「ベキムの友人」

クロアチアの西海岸を南北に走るこの辺りの地中海は「アドリア海」と呼ばれています。
海の向こうにはイタリアの東海岸があるはずです。
リエカはアドリア海の北の港町。おれたちが到着した時期は快晴が続き、日射しもサングラスが必需品になるくらい強いです。
おれたちはベキムの友人の女性、ナタシャのアパートに荷物を降ろすとさっそく海に出かけました。
静かな岩場へ行き、アドリア海に初ジャンプ！
これを皮切りに、おれたちは毎日海に飛び込むようになりました。
泳ぐ場所には困らないので暑くなったらさっと海で体を冷やすのです。
20分もすると海を引き上げ仕事（？）に戻ります。

リエカでは、これからおれたちの足となるベキムのお気に入りのワーゲンのビートル（こっちではBUBA"ブバ"と呼ばれています）の修理など、色々準備をしていたあいまにドキュメンタリーの撮影を敢行しました。
ベキムの友人たちとの再会の模様を撮影したり、彼らからベキムの過去の話を聞いたりしました。ベキムの姿を少しでも浮き彫りにするためです。

「ある寒い冬の日、ベキムはボスニアに戻る金が必要だったんだ」

高校の友人の一人、イギーがベキムのエピソードを話してくれました。

「この辺りの冬は猛烈な風が吹いて雪も積もって、本当に凍てつくんだ。旅費が欲しい
　ベキムはオレたちに言った。『もしこの海に飛び込んだら金出すか？』ってね。誰も本当
　に飛び込むとは思わないからオレたちは金を出すって答えたんだ。
　するとベキムはすぐさまコートを着たまま海に向かって走っていって、そのまま凍てつい
　た海に飛び込んじまったんだ」

ベキムからいつも感じるデモーニッシュな狂気。ベキムがそういう破天荒な高校生だった事は容易に想像がつく。

「結局その金で体を温める為のウィスキーを買ったさ」

とベキムも笑って思い出していた。
—おれが東京で高校生活を送ってた頃、遠く見知らぬユーゴスラビアでそんなエピソードがあったんだなぁ
と、おれも彼らの話す小話に耳を傾けていた。

「ベキムはオレたちの学校で唯一のモヒカンだったんだ。本当にクレージーだった。
　と同時に誰よりも勉強ができたんだ」

とイギー。

おれは今でもベキムみたいな男が大学で先生をしているのが信じられない。
しかも作家でもあるし。
人間の世界に迷い込んできた野生のオオカミみたいな一面もあれば、すごくインテリジェンスな一面もある。
昔の友人たちと話してるうちに、おれはますますベキムの事を知りたくなっていった。

その他の時間は、ベキムの友人ミュロがボートでアドリア海の散歩に連れていってくれたり、うまい地中海料理に舌鼓を打ったりしてリエカを満喫して過ごしました。

おれは旅が新鮮なせいかとにかく目に映るものをどんどん撮影していました。
ベキムもよく街の説明をしてくれます。
「この川の向こうはもともとイタリアの領土だったんだ」とか「あそこに立っている銅像はおれの尊敬する作家だ」など。
おれも「ふんふん」と聞いていました。
「お前と来てから改めて自分の住んでた街をよく見直すようになったよ。
　お前は子供のように色んなものを見つめるからおれも釣られて忘れてた街の事を色々
　思い出すようになったんだ」
とベキムはおれに言いました。

Last weekend,we went to the Norwegian woods to pick mashrooms and berrys.

So many mashrooms in the woods. Blue berry and red berry,they are everywhere in the forest.

At night,we cooked them and invited friends,had a home party.

On sunday,we went to the sea and swum. So fine to jump in the cold water.

It will be last swiming for this year. Snce middle of june,we have swam almost everyday in Balkan.

Anyway those forest and sea,you can go by bicycle.

that's the point how i like Oslo.

Balkan travel chapter 2. 14th June

"Bekim's Friends"

The Adriatic lays from north to south of west coast in Croatia.

Rijeka is a north port town by Adireatic. when we arrived there,everyday hot and sunny. Sun glass is necssary.

Anyway immediately we went to the beach.Then 1st jump to Adriatic sea!

We went to swim for chilling almost everyday.Because everyday it was too hot!

Jumping in the sea is big purification!

In Rijeka,we had lot of things to have to do.

We had to fix Bekim's car (almost his doughter) which is 30 years old Volks wagen Beatle(It's called "BUBA" in Balkan) and so on.

Sametimes i was trying to shoot documentry film.

Meeting with Bekim's old friends,and i asked them how Bekim was.

Because i thoght it can help to dicover some part of Bekim.

"One day in winter,it was so fuckin cold day,Bekim needed some money to go back to Bosnia"

Iggy told me. He is a friend of Bekim from high school.

"Here's so cold in winter.windy and snowly. Bekim asked us "if i jump the sea,do you give me some money?". So we said"yes". Because nobody thought he really jump.But  immediately he run to the sea with his coat and jumped!"

Always i feel some kind of daemonic vibration from Bekim.

So it's easy to imagine that he was wild student.

"Eventually i spent this money for buying whisky to make me warm"

Bekim was laughing to remember this tale.

When i was student in Tokyo,these tales were happened in Yugoslavia.

i never know that. so i was listening those tales with lot of interesting..

Iggy said.

"He was only one student who had punk hair style in our school.But same time he was best student for study"

I still can't belieave that Bekim teachs in the university. espciealy he is a writer as well.

But he is just like a wild wolf who came to human's world by mistake.But same time very intelijence.

During those interview ,i had more interesting about him day after day.

one day Miro took us to the Adriatic with his boat.The sky and the ocean was so blue!

Anyway everything was fresh for me. So i was shooting all the time.

Bekim explaned to me many details about Rijeka.

"You are shooting like a small boy. So i can see my old town with fresh eyes as well"

4.リエカ / RIJEKA

ノルウェーのオスローに戻ってきました。
怒濤の２ヶ月半のバルカン半島の旅でした。
ボスニア人のベキムは故郷をこれまでになく深く旅したので、オスロに戻って来て寂しそうにしています。ノルウェー人のペーターは久しぶりに故郷に戻ってきて嬉しそう。そしておれはまだ旅の最中！三人の心境が三人の背景を物語っていて、可笑しい。オスローはもう秋の気配がしています。これから編集の準備をしながら旅の事を振り返って書いていこうと思います。

６月１４日（水)　バルカンの旅　第一話「リエカ」
'飛行機の下にはヨーロッパアルプスが広がっている。
アルプスを超えて更に南下すると森が多く小さな町が点在しているのが見えてくる。　きっとスロベニアのはず。とうとうバルカン半島にやってきた！

しばらくすると目的地、クロアチアのリエカに到着しました。一日に数便の離発着しかない小さな空港。
いつものように空港の警察に止められ、荷物を調べられました。
ずっと残され取り調べが続き、しまいには「所持金はいくらか」だの、下らない事をいちいち尋ねてくるので
友人のベキムが「いい加減にしろ！」と訴えると、その警察は
「次の試合、５−０で勝つからな」
と言い残すとおれを解放した。
ワールドカップの事だ。対日本戦が控えていたので日本人というだけで嫌がらせをしていたのだ。
クロアチア人のサッカー熱は噂に聞いていたけど、さっそくカウンターパンチをもらった訳だ。
「WELCOME TO CROATIA!」
っていうべき奴がこの調子なんだから、先が思いやられるぜ。

空港にはベキムの友人ミュロがおれたちを迎えにきてくれました。
ベキムは１３歳の時（1984年）に故郷のボスニアを離れ、一人でこの港町に移ってきた。
93年にボスニアの内戦の時にノルウェーに逃れるまでここで過ごしたので、友人がたくさんいるのです。

１３歳のベキムは船乗りの勉強する為にここへやってきて寮生活を送っていたという。
でも本当の理由は「未知の世界を見たい」という気持ちだったんじゃないかとおれは思います。
おれとベキムの生い立ちは少し似ているし、どこかおれと同じ匂いを感じるので何となくそう感じるのです。
おれたちは年も近いし、おれも１２歳の時に親元を離れ一人で東京にやってきて寮生活を送っていた。
国は違えど同じ８０年代を似た環境で過ごしていたのだ。「未知の世界を見たい」という同じ気持ちが、おれたちを引き合わせたような気がします。

さてさてミュロはベキムの友人の女性、ナタシャのアパートまでオレたちを運んでくれた。
しばらく彼女のアパートに滞在して旅の準備をしなければなりません。
準備だけじゃなく、リエカは今回撮影するドキュメンタリーのテーマのひとつ、「ベキムのルーツ探し」にとってとても重要な場所なので撮影もしていきます。
では次回をおたのしみに！

We came back from Balkan.
2 & half month,everyday it was hot and happening!
Bekim looks little bit sad.Because he left his country.
Petter looks happy. Because he came back to his home country.
And me,i'm still in travel!
Those diffrence tells diffrence of our back ground.

Here Oslo already fall.  since today i try to dicribe about our travel in Balkan.
Have look our travel!

14th june　Balkans travel chapter 1

We arrived  Rijeka  in  Croatia.
At the air port,the police started to check all my stuff as usual.
But he checked me so hard.
"Hey stop it! it's enough!"
My friend Bekim said to him. Then this police guy said

"Next game,we'll win by 5-0"

He was talking about World Cup.
Croatian team was going to fight with Japan.
That's the only reason he stopped me. He just wanted for bugging me..
He was the guy who was supposed to say "Welcome to Croatia!"
But what is this!?   
Anyway,that was the 1st punch from Croatia.

At the air port, Miro -Bekim's friend-  came to pick us up.
When Bekim was 13 years old (arround 1984),he moved to Rijeka from Bosnia by himself.
Until '93, he had been in this town. So he has lots of friends here in Rijeka.
In '93,i escaped to Noway as a refugee because of the war.

Young boy Bekim,he  wanted to study about sailer man.
that was the reason to came over here,according to him.
But i think
"i wanna see places where i never been!"
This passion pushed him to came here.
That's why he is still attructed by travel. it's same for me as well.
Me & Bekim, we have a similar histry in our life.
I also left my home town by myself,when i was 12 years old (1983) .
I moved to Tokyo and staied in the dormitory of the school same as Bekim did.
So we were different country,but we spend in 80's with similar situation.

Well,Myuro broght us to Natasha(Bekim's friend)'s apartment.
We were going to stay there more than 1 week.
We had to prepare for travel,fix the car,shopping and so on.
Not only prepare,but we also had to shoot film a lot in Rijeka.
Because this port town is one of the important place for our documentry.
In this movie,one of the subject is "searching Bekim's identity".
So we were going to meet Bekim's old friends from 80's,then make interview to them.

3.前夜 Ready to go

明日、クロアチアへ向かいます。
一泊ミュンヘンに泊まって、ワールドカップも何のその、そのままクロアチアのREJEKAという港町まで行きます。
なんとオレたちの旅がクロアチアのメディアに取材される事になりました。Bkimが資金を稼ぐ為に仕組んだみたいです。
新聞だかフリーペーパーだか知らないけど、「一人のボスニア人と一人の日本人がバルカン半島の旅をする」みたいな感じで載るという。
映画「モーターサイクル・ダイアリーズ」で、チェ・ゲバラが同じ事をやってるのを見た時、「そんな事やって旅できる時代があったのかぁー」と思ったけど、今まさに自分が同じ事をしでかそうとしているなんて！

OSLOでの日々は至って平穏。
普段はBekimは大学やスキー場、Petterは幼稚園の保父さんとして仕事をしているので、オレは電車やバスに乗って町を散策して撮影しています。
時間があるとき、Petterはフィヨルドと呼ばれるOSLOの海に浮かぶ島に連れて行ってくれました。
15分ほどで可愛い小島に到着。　島の裏側にある崖の上でPetterにもインタビュー。
彼は大学でBekimと出会いバルカン半島に興味を持ち始めたという。
また、Bekimとは自転車で山の中にある湖に行きました。
気持ちのいい汗をかいて冷たい湖に飛び込む！
こんな事がダウンタウンから3、40分ほど自転車こげばできるなんて、OSLOはほんとにのどかだなと思います。

    
今日、夕方BekimもPetterも最後の仕事が終わって部屋でまったりします。
この後気持ちのよい場所に行って旅の打ち合わせ（まだやってなかったんかい！）と撮影をします。
それから荷造りして明日の出発にそなえます。

バルカン半島の旅にはノートパソコンを持って行かないので、しばらくお休みです。8月の半ばにまとめて報告しますのでよろしく！

We're going  to Croatia tomorrow.

We will stop at Munich for one night. then next day, we will arrive to Rijeka port town.

some Croatian news paper,they 're going to make inverview to us.
one Bosnian writer,one Norwgian musician and me,japanese directer are going to travel across Balkan and to shoot documentry movie.

maybe this is interesting for them.

in Oslo,i've spent quite peaceful days.

Bekim and Petter had job. So everyday i took train and bus,then shot oslo town.

one day,i did interview to Petter.he said that he met Bekim in university.then

he had interesting about Balkan.

tonight,we will pack our stuff for tomorrow.

i will write this weblog when we come back from Balkan.

it will be end of august,see u next time!

2.旅の始まり ~in travel~

オスロでは、オレはいつもカメラを持ち歩いて目に映るものを飽く事なく撮影しています。
ベキムが働いている大学やバイトしているスキージャンプ場へ行きました。
彼がノルウェーでどう暮らしているのかを撮影したかったのです。
電車の中でも気が向いたら色々インタビューをします。
気が向いた時に相手にインタビューできるなんて、素晴らしい環境だ。


オスローには小さな川が流れています。
川沿いはちょっとした林のようになっているので、東京の等々力渓谷のような感じです。
その小川沿いにあるオープンテラスのBARにみんなでビールを飲みに出かけました。
11時くらいだったと思うけど、まだ少し薄暗い程度の明るさです。
川沿いでビールを飲んでいると、まるでおとぎの国に来たような気分になります。
きれいな清流に古い味のある建物がぽつぽつと・・
「オレたちにはいつもの毎日なんだけど、お前が来てからもう旅が始まっているのを感じるよ」
とベキム。
「ほんとにそうだよ」
ペーターも。
—そうか、そうかも知れねぇな、オレの旅はもう始まってるんだから！


I've spent relax time here in Oslo,shanthi shanthi.
I always carry　my movie camera and shoot whatever I want. 
I visited ski museum and one university where Bekim works.
I shot him. How he works in Norway.
In Oslo there is one small,clean and lovely river.
This river flow in the woods.
We hang out to one bar where is located by this river. We drink beer.
So comfortable! much diffrent from Tokyo.
Bekim said " for me,it's sameday like everyday. but since you arrived,I feel that I'm in travel already"
and Petter "That's right"
-Yeah,it's can be. Because I'm travel already!
